Padre’ & The Constable

Our community in Ūawa is fortunate to have amazing individuals like Padre Willy and Constable Hector, who serve to help and protect us. We are their preferred choice for designs when it comes to expressing gratitude. We've had three occasions to create plaques that bring their words to life, which we now refer to as beautiful bookends.

This was our first project for Hector, who discovered us through mutual friends and decided to take a chance on our services. After our initial phone call, Hector visited for a coffee to introduce himself. He shares many of the same interests as Sam and has a keen fascination with the possibilities of laser technology.

We have two local constables, and Hector wanted to acknowledge the 20-year anniversary of his fellow officer. With our help, he was able to create a meaningful tribute to celebrate this milestone.

"Honoring 20 Years of Dedicated Service in the Police Force!"

Inspector Tamuera Aberahama, affectionately known as Sam, served the Tairawhiti district for nearly 30 years before receiving the call to go home. After his years of dedicated service, Padre Willy shared Sam's stories to convey the community's message of appreciation. Constable Hector sourced the timber, rimu from an old farmhouse being demolished, and we created a design to present to the inspector before his departure from the region.

Thuron Yates, a military enthusiast from the South Island, purchased a hand-sewn flag that our tipuna marched under during World War II. This flag holds significant sentimental value for the Ūawa community, particularly for Padre Willy. When approached by the community about buying this taonga and returning it home, Thuron generously offered to gift it back. The community invited Thuron and his son to the Matariki celebrations, where he received a formal pōwhiri and a commemorative piece in recognition of his kindness and care for this precious taonga.
