What are we doing now?

We are heading back to Rotorua

  • Reclamation of te reo Rangatira

One of the strongest reasons for returning home is my deep desire to fully commit to learning and reclaiming my reo rangatira, te reo Māori. For the past two decades, I’ve made many excuses for not prioritizing this journey. However, with our first mokopuna entering kura next year, I am determined not to let a second generation go through kura without the ability to converse freely and confidently in our reo.

  • Art Studio

While studying at Te Wananga o Aotearoa Whirikōka Campus in Gisborne, I was inspired and motivated by the vibrant and talented Māori artists around me. My goal now is to recreate that creative atmosphere by holding informal art workshops. I am actively seeking a commercial space to make this vision a reality and provide others with the opportunity to explore their artistic potential.

  • Location

Our markets keep us incredibly busy and often on the road, bringing us to various places and communities. While living in Tairawhiti has been an amazing and life-changing experience filled with new opportunities, Rotorua will always hold a special place in our hearts. Its central location makes it convenient for our work, but the most significant aspect of all is that both Sam and I deeply miss our families. After much consideration, we’ve decided to come home to be closer to our loved ones, where we can continue our journey while reconnecting with those who matter most.
